Accountant, Baker, author, blogger, writer, chef, DIY fan, Jesus baby! I just want To be excellent every day
While I was growing up, I was in sync with my body. We communicated and listened to each other often. I knew how far I could push my body. I knew the various ways it could react and when I acted like I wasn’t listening, it will send me a “text message or an email” depending on the urgency and content of the message.
I remember a few lines that lived on the tip of my lip. Whenever I was asked to do something extra after a hard day, I replied, “My engine has knocked. My motor can’t move”. As funny as that sounded, I had passed my message. I might as well attack with “I can’t feel my legs”. Both lines were indications of extreme weariness, I’m still being teased with them till present day.
“God never asked us to meet life’s pressures and demands on our own terms or by relying on our own strength. Nor did He demands that we win His favor by assembling an impressive portfolio of good deeds. Instead, He invites us to enter His rest.”
Charles R. Swindoll
We all function differently. Some of us may pass off as lazy (like me) while others may be termed workaholics (my mom). Whatever your position is on the work scale, make sure you are functioning in line with your inner rhythm. I understand that there are times we have to push past our body signals to get things done but this becomes a problem when it’s done all the time.
You may want to see the whole picture before you start but life won’t present you with such luxury. Start! And things will fall into place one step at a time. A whole lot of interesting experiences await you so why let life pass you by? Whether it is writing (books/songs), starting a business, taking on a job, going back to school, getting into a relationship, volunteering, creating a blog like me, or carving a niche for yourself, START!
Even Jesus worked hard and retreated frequently and he invites us to live like this too. Imagine him being caught asleep in the storm. The earth will keep spinning with or without you. You are only indispensable to an extent(that’s if you like to lie to yourself that you are indispensable. Not arguing with you) but truth is, no one is indispensable.
People die and are replaced almost immediately by the jobs they thought had their name on it. Listen to your inner rhythm, then take a step further to obey it. Life is less complicated when we live rhythmic-work, work, retreat, work, work, retreat.
If you do not take care of yourself, who will?
“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.”
